 One day before Election Day, Trump and Harris focus on swing states as they aim to sway undecided voters.

With just one day remaining until the US Presidential elections, campaigning has hit overdrive.

Democratic candidate Kamala Harris and her Republican rival Donald Trump are on a tour of swing statesaiming to sway undecided voters. On Sunday, Harris was in Michigan, while Trump focused on North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Georgia.

What are the latest updates from the polls?

A recent New York Times/Siena poll shows that Trump and Harris are effectively tied in Pennsylvania, each receiving 48 percent of the vote.

Meanwhile, according to FiveThirtyEight’s National Polls tracker, Harris holds a narrow lead of 1 percentage point over Trump.

However, this lead is shrinking, indicating that either candidate has a strong chance of winning.

Iran said planning to use more powerful weapons in next attack on Israel

 At the same time, Iran’s president suggests truces in Lebanon, Gaza could soften retribution, as Iranians attend state-backed rallies against Israel and the US

Iran is preparing an attack on Israel in response to the recent strikes on Iranian military sites that will use more powerful warheads and “other weapons” not used in its previous two attacks, Iranian and Arab officials briefed on the plans.

At the same time, Iran’s president said a potential ceasefire between Israel and its allies Hamas and Hezbollah “could affect the intensity” of Tehran’s threatened attack.

Iranian leaders have warned they will mete out a “punishing” reprisal attack against Israel for a series of retaliatory sorties on October 26 — themselves a reaction to a massive Iranian ballistic missile attack — that Jerusalem says knocked out the Islamic Republic’s air defenses and missile production capabilities. Reports have indicated the response could come as soon as this week.

An Egyptian official told The Journal that Tehran warned Cairo privately that its response to Israel will be “strong and complex.”

An Iranian official reportedly said that because its military lost four soldiers and a civilian, there is a necessity to respond.

The report said Iran’s military will be involved in the operation, marking a departure from the April 13-14 and October 1 missile attacks which were carried out by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

The official said the attack will target Israeli military sites “much more aggressively than last time,” and that Iraqi territory may be used to launch projectiles.

But according to state news agency IRNA, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said: “If [the Israelis] reconsider their behavior, accept a ceasefire and stop massacring the oppressed and innocent people of the region, it could affect the intensity and type of our response.”

He added that Iran “will not leave unanswered any aggression against its sovereignty and security,” according to the news agency.

On Thursday, senior White House aides Brett McGurk and Amos Hochstein were in Israel for talks with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and senior officials about conflicts with Hamas in Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon, both backed by Iran.

The meetings focused on efforts to secure a 60-day ceasefire deal in Lebanon and to assess new proposals floated by mediators to free Israeli hostages being held in Gaza, according to a US official familiar with planning for the talks who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to comment publicly.

موسم سرما کے ایک دن بے مقصد تجسّس کی وجہ سے کیے جانے والے ڈی این اے ٹیسٹ کے چونکا دینے والے نتیجے نے دو خواتین اور ان کے اہلخانہ کو مجبور کر دیا کہ وہ اپنے بارے میں جو کچھ بھی جانتی ہیں اس کا ازسرنو جائزہ لیں۔

جب ٹونی کے دوستوں نے سنہ 2021 میں کرسمس کے لیے انھیں ڈی این اے ہوم ٹیسٹنگ کٹ دی تو انھوں نے اسے اپنے باورچی خانے کے سائیڈ بورڈ پر چھوڑ دیا اور دو ماہ تک اس کے بارے میں بھول گئیں۔

فروری کے ایک دن ان کا دھیان اس طرف گیا، ٹونی گھر پر تھے اور بور ہو گئے تھے کیونکہ ان کے گالف کے ہفتہ وار راؤنڈ میں بارش ہو چکی تھی۔ انھوں نے نمونے کی ٹیوب میں تھوک دیا اور کٹ کو بھجوا دیا۔

جون نے مجھے بتایا کہ ’یہ ایک حیرت انگیز احساس تھا، آخر کار ایک لڑکی کا ہونا تاہم جب انھوں نے سنا کہ ٹونی کے ڈی این اے کے نتائج میں کچھ غیر متوقع ہے تو وہ فوری طور پر پریشان ہو گئیں۔‘

ٹونی بھی حیران تھے لیکن انھوں نے ظاہر نہیں ہونے دیا۔ اپنے والد کی موت کے دس سال بعد ٹونی کی والدہ 80 کی دہائی میں تھیں اور اکیلی رہتی تھیں۔ وہ انھیں پریشان نہیں کرنا چاہتے تھے۔

اگلی صبح انھوں نے ڈی این اے ٹیسٹنگ کمپنی کی نجی میسجنگ سہولت کا استعمال کرتے ہوئے کلیر سے رابطہ کیا جس خاتون کے بارے میں دعویٰ کیا گیا تھا کہ وہ ان کی بہن ہیں۔

انھوں نے میسج میں لکھا ’ہیلو، میرا نام ٹونی ہے۔ میں نے یہ ڈی این اے ٹیسٹ کیا۔ آپ میری بہن کے طور پر سامنے آئی ہیں۔

’مجھے اپنا آپ ایک دھوکے باز کی طرح محسوس ہوا‘

کلیئر کو دو سال قبل اسی برانڈ کا ڈی این اے ٹیسٹ دیا گیا تھا جو ان کے بیٹے نے انھیں سالگرہ کے تحفے کے طور پر دیا تھا۔

اس کے نتائج بھی عجیب تھے۔ ان نتائج کا ان کے والدین کی جائے پیدائش سے کوئی تعلق نہیں تھا اور ان کا ایسے فرسٹ کزن سے جینیاتی تعلق تھا جسے وہ نہیں جانتی تھیں اور ان کے پاس کی کی کوئی وضاحت نہیں تھی۔

پھر 2022 میں انھیں اطلاع ملی کہ ایک بھائی ان کے فیملی ٹری ’شجرہِ نسب‘ میں شامل ہو گیا ہے۔

یہ حیران کن تھا لیکن ایک طرح سے ان سب کی ایک منطق تھی کیونکہ بڑے ہوتے ہوئے انھیں کبھی ایسا محسوس نہیں ہوا کہ وہ وہاں کی ہیں۔

وہ کہتی ہیں ’مجھے ایک دھوکے باز کی طرح محسوس ہوتا۔ شکل و صورت یا خصوصیات میں کوئی مماثلت نہیں تھی۔ میں سوچتی تھی کہ شاید مجھے گود لیا گیا۔‘

جب کلیئر اور ٹونی نے پیغامات اور سوانح حیات کی تفصیلات کا تبادلہ شروع کیا تو انھیں پتہ چلا کہ کلیئر تقریباً اسی وقت اور اسی ہسپتال میں پیدا ہوئی تھیں جہاں ان کی بہن جیسیکا پیدا ہوئیں۔

پھر یہ بات سامنے آئی کہ 57 سال پہلے دونوں بچیاں پیدائش کے وقت تبدیل ہو گئی تھیں، جس کے بعد انھوں نے مختلف خاندانوں میں پرورش پائی۔

برطانیہ میں زچگی کے وارڈوں میں حادثاتی طور پر بچوں کے بدل جانے کے واقعات سننے میں نہیں آتے۔

سنہ 2017 میں فریڈم آف انفارمیشن کی درخواست کے جواب میں این ایچ ایس نے جواب دیا کہ جہاں تک اس کے ریکارڈ سے پتہ چلتا ہے بچوں کو غلط والدین کے ساتھ گھر بھیجنے کا کوئی دستاویزی واقعہ نہیں۔

نہ 1980 کی دہائی سے نوزائیدہ بچوں کو ان کی پیدائش کے فورا بعد ریڈیو فریکوئنسی آئیڈینٹیفیکیشن (آر ایف آئی ڈی) ٹیگ دیے جاتے ہیں، جس سے ان کے مقام کو ٹریک کیا جا سکتا ہے۔

اس سے پہلے، زچگی کے وارڈ میں بستروں پر ہاتھ سے لکھے ہوئے ٹیگ اور کارڈ لگائے جاتے تھے۔

اس خبر کے صدمے کو برادشت کرتے ہوئے کلیئر اور ٹونی کو یہ فیصلہ کرنا تھا کہ آگے کیا کرنا ہے۔

ٹونی نے کلیئر کو لکھا کہ ’اس کا ردِ عمل شدید ہوگا۔ اگر آپ اسے یہیں چھوڑنا چاہتی ہیں تو میں اسے بالکل قبول کروں گا اور ہم اس میں بالکل بھی پیشرفت نہیں کریں گے۔‘

کلیئر بغیر کسی ہچکچاہٹ کے جانتی تھیں کہ وہ ٹونی اور ان کی ماں سے ملنا چاہتی ہیں۔

وہ کہتی ہیں کہ ’میں صرف انھیں دیکھنا چاہتی تھی ان سے ملنا چاہتی تھی، ان سے بات کرنا چاہتی تھی اور انھیں گلے لگانا چاہتی تھی۔‘

جب ٹونی نے آخر کار جون کو بتایا کہ ڈی این اے ٹیسٹ سے کیا پتہ چلا، تو وہ جاننے کے لیے بے تاب ہوگئیں کہ یہ کیسے ہو سکتا ہے؟

 ملتان میں نیوز کانفرنس کرتے ہوئے جے یو آئی سربراہ مولانا فضل الرحمان نے کہا کہ چاہتے ہیں ادارے طاقتور ہوں اور اپنے دائرہ کار میں کام کریں، آئینی ترامیم کے مسودے پر اتفاق رائے کے لیے ہفتہ 10 دن لگ سکتے ہیں، آئینی عدالت کے قیام سے متعلق اتفاق رائے موجود ہے مگر بدنیتی نظر آرہی ہے کہ عدالتی ڈھانچہ اس طرح تشکیل دے رہے ہیں کہ مخالفین کو نشانہ بنایا جاسکے۔

انہوں نے کہا کہ ہم کوشش کریں گے کہ غلط فیصلے یا غلط قانون سازی سے روکیں، ایک مسودہ، دوسرا مسودہ، یا تیسرا مسودہ، پارلیمنٹ کو کنفیوژن میں کیوں رکھا جارہا ہے۔

فضل الرحمان نے کہا کہ پیپلزپارٹی اور ہمارے درمیان غلط فہمی نہیں ہونی چاہیے، آئینی ترمیم پر اتفاق رائے ہوجانا بہتر ہے، جے یو آئی اصولی سیاست کرتی رہے گی، عوام تو اس وقت مسودے سے آگاہ نہیں ہیں، ہمارے مؤقف کی تائید اس وقت عوام زیادہ ہے، لوگوں کو توڑ کر کچھ بھی کریں گے تو یہ سودا گیری ہے۔

جے یو آئی سربراہ نے کہا کہ آئینی ترامیم مسودے پر حکومت اور اپوزیشن کے لوگ ہم سے رابطے میں رہے، ہم اپوزیشن میں ہیں لیکن باقاعدہ اتحاد کا حصہ نہیں ہیں، پی ٹی آئی سے بھی ماضی کی تلخیاں کم ہوگئیں مگر ان سے باقاعدہ اتحاد نہیں ہے۔

انہوں نے مزید کہا کہ اس حکومت، اسمبلی کو عوامی نمائندہ نہیں سمجھتے، پارلیمانی کردار ادا کرتے رہیں گے، ہم ملک میں دوبارہ انتخابات چاہتے ہیں اور اپنے مؤقف پر قائم ہیں، پارلیمان کا کردار عوام کی خدمت کم اور طاقتوروں کی خدمت زیادہ ہے۔

AJK president seeks US Congress’ intervention to end Indian repression

MIRPUR: Azad Jammu & Kashmir  President Sardar Masood Khan has said that the role of US Congress is important to bring an end to Indian repression against the Kashmiri people, and as such, it should hold a debate and pass a resolution on the alarming situation of occupied Kashmir.

Addressing a gathering of the Association of Physicians of Pakistani Descent of North America (APPNA) in US city of Houston late Saturday,  he said that Pakistani-Americans and Kashmiri-Americans with the support of Congressmen and Senators who had raised their voice in favor of Kashmiri people, should get to Washington to seek  diplomatic and political support of the US Congress for an end to the ongoing ethnic cleansing in occupied Kashmir. AJK Presidential Secretariat said on Sunday.

He said, “End to killings and persecution is first priority but the US Congress should also put its weight behind efforts to reverse the unlawful action taken by India on August 5,” and added that the political status of Jammu and Kashmir  must be decided in accordance with the wishes of not Modi like fascist individual but the Kashmiri people themselves.

The AJK president called on the members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and House Foreign Affairs Committee to take initiative in this regard and take steps to address the human rights crisis in occupied Kashmir.

Sardar Masood Khan expressed his deep disappointment over the silence and inaction of the UN Security Council since August 20 when it had convened an informal session at the request of Pakistan. “If the Security Council does not act, the people of Jammu and Kashmir themselves will have to take steps to defend their rights and there would be an irreversible drift to war with dire consequences,” he warned.

The AJK president said that India was threatening to use nuclear weapons against Pakistan which has necessitated the international community to restrain and discipline India. “Neither Kashmiri people nor Pakistan desire a war, however, their preference is to secure an end to repression in Kashmir and to resolve the Jammu and Kashmir dispute through peaceful means, especially through multilateral efforts led by the UN.

He said “Now is the time not to be silent but to speak as a bloodbath has already started in Kashmir,” and pointed out that 13,000 Kashmiri youth have been picked arbitrarily by occupation forces and are being tortured in concentration camps.

Sardar Masood Khan lamented that India’s violent extremist government was celebrating its murderous campaign in occupied Kashmir and was seeking its endorsement from the world leaders, while Kashmiri people and Pakistanis are demonstrating outside the United Nations and in world capitals. “A day is to come very soon when the dawn of Kashmir’s freedom and self-determination would be celebrating in the streets and squares of Kashmir and all around the world, he added.

The AJK president thanked the people of Houston for organizing a big rally against the “Howdi Modi” rally of the Indian-Americans. The demonstration by nearly 30,000 people in New York on September 27 in front of the UN Headquarters, while Modi was addressing the General Assembly, showed the outrage of the world community against the aggravating steps taken by India’s extremist government.

He invited Congresswoman Sheila Jackson-Lee, Congressman Al-Green and members of the Pakistan Caucus in the US Congress to visit Azad Kashmir.

Congresswoman Sheila Jackson-Lee, Congressman Al Green and State Representative Sean Thierry also spoke on the occasion. They said that they would make concerted efforts for the restoration of the rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir and for averting a war in the region.

The AJK President thanked the leadership of Tahir Javed, the influential voice within the US Democratic Party for mobilizing the community.

Earlier, the AJK President had a meeting with Congressman Al Green and briefed him about the horrendous human rights situation in occupied Kashmir, and sought the help of the US Congressional leaders to rescue Kashmiri people from India’s state.
